I’ve lost friends to AIDS, and I have friends who currently live with the disease. Today, on the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, I’d like to implore any of you who can afford even just $5 to donate to my AIDS/LifeCycle fund.

Every summer, I ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds and awareness for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. This will be my fifth year participating, and I would like to break all my previous fundraising goals and raise $10,000.

And to make this clear, I don’t get any of this money at all. This is strictly going to fund a portion of the ride and the vast majority of the money goes towards providing client services at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. I donate my own time, money, and energy to this cause, as do thousands of others, because we believe that our government is letting down our communities. We believe that education and health care regarding sexual health, HIV infection, and AIDS is vital and necessary in San Francisco, and that with these things, along with many client service programs for specific demographics of people who might be afflicted with HIV, is the path to stopping the spread of HIV. We acknowledge that money is in the way of a lot of this, so we pledge to raise at least $3,000 per rider each year to go to the SFAF.

If you have a chance, donate $5! Or more, obviously, but $5 is the minimum donation! Spread the word, reblog this, and let’s do whatever we can to enable us to fight HIV, to honor and remember those we’ve lost, and take control of our future.
