i love this so much.

I wrote several months ago about how I had very mixed feelings about this campaign. I was primarily concerned with the gender implications these messages could have—about the idea that there was any such thing as “a real man.” I didn’t like that idea. I still, in general, don’t like that idea. But the more I have thought about this campaign, the more I like it.

I don’t think there is any one definition of what a “real man” is…Men can love football or ice skating, steak and potatoes or tofu and quinoa, tennis shoes and track suits or high heels and cocktail dresses, chapstick or lipstick, hiking or power walking, working with their hands or working at home with the kids. There is no ideal masculinity or single definition of manliness or manhood or maleness.

Except for one thing.

Real men DON’T buy girls. Real men do not rape. Real men do not commit violence against women or girls—or against men or boys or anyone else. Real men do NOT help further the sex trade and human trafficking. Real men do not buy girls.

I don’t care what a man wears, how he talks, how he acts, what sports he likes (or doesn’t like), if he wears makeup, if his chromosomes are XX or XY or any variant in between, if he was MAAB or FAAB, who he loves (or how), or anything else that people use to arbitrarily determine the worth of other people and the validity of their gender identity. But I do care deeply about one thing—if he pays for sex with underaged girls (or boys), he is not a real man. Period.

And that is one ultimatum I am willing to endorse.
